OUR STORY
Our journey began when friends James Stuart and Paul Bishop were talking shop. James, a hospitality veteran (The Bowery Hotel, Esmé Miami Beach), and Paul, an award-winning interior designer with over 200 awards, were discussing a huge issue in the industry—how brand, operations, design, and everything in between seldom integrate well, and that something needs to change.
That conversation sparked the idea for Custard. A sister company to Bishop Design, Custard was created to bring a new approach to hospitality development by offering a holistic and seamless integration of brand and operations.
WHY CUSTARD?
Our objective is straightforward: we focus on answering the what, why, how, and who for. We do this by transforming a vision into a cohesive brand and visual identity that is seamlessly aligned with the way the business should operate. It’s a focused and efficient approach that is smarter and ultimately more impactful.
The name? It started as an inside joke but soon became a metaphor for the "special sauce" that defines our expertise. In today’s landscape, the stakes are higher than ever—guests are more informed, and margins are tighter. They demand not only exceptional products and services but also meaningful connections.
